The
computer is, after television, DVD player and mobile phone, one of the most
widely used electronic devices in the world. It is used in many areas and for
many reasons. In fact, on the Internet, there are lots of articles talking
about how to choose your computer. If you are looking for expert advice with
complex words, you are probably in the wrong place. My advice will be too
simple for computer geeks.

In
this article, we will give you some details that can help you choose your
computer easily, and I will suggest computers that you can buy with only a few dolars.
The
choice of a computer is made mainly according to its needs and means, it is
certainly not a good idea to choose a computer because your friend has a
computer like this or to choose one with many capabilities that you cannot use
and that will surely be expensive for its performance.
In
my humble opinion, this choice is generally based on 3 main criteria:
- The processor
- The RAM memory
- The graphic card
Choice in relation to the processor
First
of all, for simple people like us, I would say that the processor is the brain
of the computer, that's where all the calculations are done and the tasks are
performed. Even if it's not the only criterion to determine if a computer is
worth it or not, but it's not the least of it. There are all kinds of them, but
we know two: AMD and Intel. For the AMDs, I don't know much about it,
especially with their weird names that don't say anything about its ability,
unlike the Intels. For the moment we have i3, i5, i7 and the most recent i9.
Let's just say, the bigger the number, the more recent it is.
For someone who wants a computer for basic
things, i.e. office automation, word processing, surfing the net..., any
computer will do. That is, even an i3.
For
multimedia use (video playback, document creation with graphics...), a computer
with a slightly more powerful processor will do, at least an i5.
advice :
If you want to buy a computer with an i5 processor. This HUAWEI MateBook D 15.6 is the best choice. It
receives 5 stars from more than 75% of customers on online sales sites.

For
all graphic and audiovisual purposes, i.e. photo processing, video creation,
video games, it is better to have a computer with an i7 processor at least.
advice :
You can consult Asus Zenbook 14 here, this
computer with a Core i7 processor, 8GB of 256GB SSD RAM, it is equipped with
USB-A and HDMI outputs, not too expensive on Amazon, payable in 4 installments,
it receives 4.2 stars on average by 115 customers --> learn more
Now, let's talk about RAM.
Like
a person's memory, it is where some data are stored for processing. Be careful,
it's different from the memory of the computer where the videos, films, music
are stored... Let's even say it's a temporary memory. We currently have
computers with 2GB, 4GB, 6GB, 6GB, 8GB memories etc....
Same
for now, a simple use does not require many memories, 2GB is enough.
For
someone who does programming and compilation, you need at least 6G memory and
even with that memory, you're going to struggle a little bit.
For
everything that is graphic design, video games, applications requiring a lot of
memory, it takes no less than 8GB.
And
for intensive use, let's say a 16GB RAM.
The graphic card
According
to Wikipedia's very simplistic definition, and I quote:
"A
graphics card or video card, or a graphics adapter, is a computer expansion
card whose role is to produce an image that can be displayed on a screen.
The
most common manufacturers are NVIDIA, again this famous AMD, Asus, MSI etc....
We're not going to delay on it. To run a creative and exceptional application
on your computer like Blender (it's not advertising) who takes care of
everything that is animations, 3d etc..... you need a graphics card that can do
the job. We have some with capacities of 1024 Mb, 2048 Mb. For the simplists,
one of 1024 will do. But for a video game enthusiast or a professional computer
graphics designer, it will take at least 2048MB, otherwise, it will take a long
time for your images (final jobs) to be displayed correctly.
There
are other factors to take into account for your computer, it's not super
important but it's at least valid, like memory, screen size, battery life...
For
hard disk memory, most computers nowadays are manufactured with storage space
ranging from 256Gb to 4TB.
The
more we use the computer, the more storage space we will need. This will
obviously only depend on what you do with it. For the moment there are 2 types
of storage spaces, HDD and SSD. To avoid delaying too much on the subject, SSDs
are more efficient, faster, quieter and obviously more expensive. With a
computer that has SSD storage space, applications (if installed on it) take
much less time to load and open. And as you may have guessed, there are now
hybrid computers, i.e. with an HDD (just to store data) and an SSD (to load
applications). For easy use, an HDD will suffice. More complicated, it may be
necessary to start thinking about SSDs.
For
the screen, there are many possibilities that I will not detail here, but I
would still note this for you, it is not the size of a computer's screen that
determines its performance.
And
finally, none of this will be worth anything if the computer in question,
however powerful it may be, cannot remain on for 2 hours without being plugged
in.
Last
little thing I read at Fnac (which is a store for almost everything that is not
edible):
"To
have a good PC, the idea is to have a balanced configuration. A
high-performance processor will be useless if the RAM and graphics card do not
support it [...]"
